Radiesse®, developed by German manufacturer Merz Aesthetics, is an advanced biostimulator designed to regenerate the skin from within by stimulating the body’s natural collagen and elastin production.

  • Composed of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a biocompatible gel
  • Works by supporting the skin’s structure while triggering long-term regenerative processes

  • Encourages the skin to rebuild strength, density, and resilience over time

  • Delivers natural-looking results that evolve gradually

Radiesse® can be used in different ways, depending on the treatment goal - from improving skin quality and firmness to restoring structure where volume has been lost.

Radiesse® Hyperdilute (Radiesse® "Wash")

The latest development in skin-quality biostimulation

Radiesse® Hyperdilute, also known as a Radiesse® Wash, represents an advanced technique in skin-quality biostimulation. This is a specialised treatment technique focused entirely on improving skin quality - without adding volume at any stage.

In this approach, Radiesse® is diluted or hyperdiluted depending on the treatment area, allowing for smooth, even distribution within the skin. Unlike other applications of Radiesse®, the Wash technique is not intended to lift, contour, or reshape. Its sole purpose is to stimulate collagen and elastin production, leading to gradual improvements in skin firmness, texture, and elasticity.

Radiesse® Hyperdilute is particularly suited to larger or delicate areas affected by skin laxity, thinning, and crepiness, where structural support or volumisation would be inappropriate.

How Radiesse® Hyperdilute Works

Radiesse® Hyperdilute works through pure biostimulation:

  • Diluted CaHA microspheres are evenly distributed within the skin
  • These microspheres stimulate fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin
  • Over time, the skin becomes firmer, denser, and more resilient
  • Designed to avoid volumisation, lift, or contour change

Results develop gradually over the following weeks as the skin regenerates from within.

Common Treatment Areas for Radiesse® Hyperdilute

Radiesse® Hyperdilute may be used to improve skin quality in areas such as:

  • Face (skin laxity and textural changes)
  • Jawline (skin tightening, not contouring)
  • Neck
  • Décolletage
  • Upper arms
  • Hands
  • Other areas affected by crepiness or thinning skin

Treatment plans, including dilution and technique, are tailored to the individual patient and treatment area.

Treatment Technique

Due to the size of the treatment areas and the need for even product distribution, Radiesse® Hyperdilute is typically administered using a microcannula. This allows for smoother placement, reduced trauma, and optimal skin coverage.

Radiesse® (Standard Use)

 Biostimulation with structural support

In its standard application, Radiesse® is used as a biostimulator that also provides structural support in areas affected by volume loss and reduced skin density.

Radiesse® has a unique dual-action mechanism:

- Immediate Volume Effect

   • The gel carrier provides instant structure and lift
   • Smooths wrinkles and restores facial or hand contours right after injection

- Biostimulation Phase

   • The CaHA microspheres stimulate your body to produce new collagen (neocollagenesis)
   • Triggers natural regeneration within the skin's deeper layers

- Collagen Remodelling (over the following weeks and months):

   • The gel carrier is slowly absorbed
   • Types I and III collagen are synthesised
   • Skin becomes firmer, denser, and more elastic

This approach is suited to patients who require both regeneration and structural reinforcement, rather than skin-quality improvement alone.

Treatment Protocol

🔹Course: 1 session (occasionally 2)

A second session may be considered in cases of:

  • Advanced skin laxity
  • Larger treatment areas (neck, chest, arms) requiring collagen stimulation

🔹Maintenance:

Typically considered around 12 months, depending on the treatment area, baseline skin condition, and individual response.

🔹Downtime: Minimal recovery - most resume normal activity within 24 hours

    Temporary effects may include:

  • Mild redness, swelling, or bruising (7–10 days)
  • Temporary numbness, which may take several weeks to fully settle

Contraindications
  • Not suitable for under 18s, pregnant, or breastfeeding women.
  • No history of skin cancer or active cancer treatment at treatment site.
  • No anticoagulation therapy or blood disorders (e.g., thrombocytopenia, severe coagulopathies).
  • No active skin infections or dermatological conditions (e.g., eczema, psoriasis) at treatment site.
  • No severe metabolic or systemic disorders (e.g., uncontrolled diabetes).
  • No allergy to local anaesthetics (topical or injectable, e.g., lidocaine, articaine).
  • No known allergy to Radiesse components (e.g., calcium hydroxylapatite, carboxymethylcellulose).
  • No history of keloid scarring.
  • No active systemic infections (e.g., hepatitis, HIV).
  • No recent hyaluronic acid treatments in the same area (wait 3 months).
Pre-Treatment Advice
  • Avoid blood thinners (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen), alcohol, supplements (e.g., fish oils, vitamins A–E) for 72 hours prior to minimize bruising.

  • No dental treatments, aesthetic treatments, or vaccines 2 weeks prior.
  • Avoid retinol or retinoid products (e.g., tretinoin, adapalene) for 5 days prior to reduce skin irritation.

  • Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup or skincare products.
Post-Treatment Advice
